Lady Saints — PENNSYLVANIA CYO GIRLS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS!!!

After clinching the 47th annual Harrisburg Diocesan CYO Championship, our 11th Diocesan title, the Saint Theresa Lady Saints girls’ varsity basketball team headed off to the state tournament in Philadelphia last weekend to compete with representatives from the other seven dioceses in Pennsylvania.

St. Theresa played St. Patrick’s of Pottsville in the opening round and needed a thrilling come from behind effort to seal a 37 – 33 victory to advance to the Final Four.  Jaylin Moore (11 points) and Ryan Kaercher (9 points) led the way for the Lady Saints.

In the semi-finals, St. Theresa played St. Maximillian Kolbe from West Chester, the hometown favorite.  Late in the fourth quarter the Saints took the lead and held on for an exciting 29 – 28 win.  Gracie Britten had 10 points and Ryan Kaercher added 7 for St. Theresa.

Then on Sunday, in front of a packed gym, St. Theresa took on perennial favorite St. Thomas More from Pittsburgh for the state championship.  The Lady Saints jumped out to a 12 – 5 lead thanks to some sharp-shooting by Natalie Levine and Jaylin Moore and tenacious man to man defense that overwhelmed their opponents.  St. Theresa maintained a 7 point lead through three quarters and then the Saints broke things open in the final six minutes to finish with a 39 – 25 victory and the Pennsylvania CYO Basketball Championship title!  Jaylin Moore rang up 17 points in her final CYO game and Ryan Kaercher added 9.

St. Theresa finishes the 2016 – 2017 season with an overall record of 32 wins and only 5 losses.  The Lady Saints were the Harrisburg CYO league champions, the Harrisburg Diocesan champions, and now, state champions. The team is made up of Morgan Law, Holland Chavey, Natalie Levine, Lindsey Haser, Ava Kimber, Gracie Britten, Emily Ford, Carrie Claypool, Ryan Kaercher, Zoe Dicks, Samantha Reilly, Jaylin Moore, and Isabelle Roes. The team is coached by Kevin Cicak and assistants Tammi & Dwayne Jones and Jim Gaumer.

The team would like to express our most sincere thanks to the St. Theresa Parish and School community for their great support, both at the games in Philly and back home on Sunday when our escort of fire trucks and police vehicles arrived back at school.  We are so proud to represent the St. Theresa parish.

Saints to Play For Another Championship!

For the 5th time in the last six years, the Lady Saints have made it to the Diocesan championship finals. St. Theresa won it all in 2012, 2014, and 2016 and lost to Resurrection in 2013. On Sunday, the Lady Saints match-up against a familiar opponent, Sacred Heart of Hanover.

St. Theresa advanced to the championship game with wins over St. Joseph of Mechanicsburg (38 - 15) and Holy Name of Harrisburg (48 - 25). Ryan Kaercher has played a big role in the Saints' success with 12 points in the first game and 21 in the semi-final.

Game time is 3:30 Sunday at Trinity with a ticket to the big dance at states for the winner.

Congratulations to our boys team as well, who advanced to the championship game in their own Diocesan tournament. Good luck Coach Grace and crew!

League Title Goes to Saint Theresa!

In a defensive struggle, St. Theresa locked down high scoring Sacred Heart for a 28 - 15 win in the league title game.  Ryan Kaercher led the Saints with 8 points and Natalie Levine chipped in with 6.  With this win, St. Theresa moves to 26 wins and 5 losses on the season and looks forward towards the start of the Diocesan Tournament as the projected #1 seed.
